		Every Saturday afternoon when I was a kid: John Wayne, in Technicolor, bigger than life!  He always stood for what was right, just, strong, and I guess, oh, just plain manly.  On Sunday mornings, however, I never seemed to find a John Wayne type of figure in my church.  You know, God's man that stood for what was right, just, and strong. Ever wonder why? You know, there are still some men of God out there that say what needs to be said and who live to please their Lord.  They, I guess, are those I look up to... my spiritual heroes. Wanna meet one...

Patch:  Spiritual Truths from the Death of a Dog

		On Sunday, January 7, 2007, my son Justus discovered that his beloved pet, Patch, was dead.  She was old, real old.  In fact, we're not exactly sure how old she was.  Saturday night... everything's the same. Sunday morning... life changes forever. I know what you're thinking. You're thinking that there's no way you can derive some spiritual truths from the death of a dog.  Especially when that dog is your son's beloved pet. Well, you're wrong.  Dead wrong.

		It's amazing how close we think we can get to the edge of sin and still wonder why we struggle with our flesh.  Like, duh!  Like, how stupid is that!  And, sadly, the church reflects that struggle — compounded by the millions.   Do we really think we can "claim to have fellowship with the light and yet walk in darkness" — and believe that Jesus is OK with that?  Ugh. The Joy of Believing the Lie

     I am keenly aware of the fact that you may be wondering about a guy who would write a book entitled, Love Jesus, Hate Church. You probably have some questions, maybe many questions, about the origins of a book that makes people as uncomfortable as Love Jesus, Hate Church has proven to do.
     You may be asking yourself, "How can you be a Christian and use the words Love and Hate and Jesus and Church all in the same sentence?  It just seems so wrong."
     And, you're right. It does seem wrong.
     True.  But wrong.

     Yep, I would probably be wondering the same thing if the tables were turned and I found myself in your shoes.

     So, let me see if I can shed some light on who I am and why I do what I do by telling you a bit about myself and how I came to write Love Jesus, Hate Church.  Let me share with you, oh, how shall I put it— the joy of believing the lie. I believe this will give you a better grasp of who I am and why I wrote Love Jesus, Hate Church.
