Preparing for the End:  Religious Affections, Part 2
Friday, August 29, 2008, posted by Steve McCranie (022)

  Let's cut to the chase...
This is Part 2 of our look at Jonathan Edwards' message, Religious Affections.  It helps us come to grips with what John the Apostle said in 1 John...

These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.   1 John 5:13

And the operative word is, know!

Note:  This is a study of 1 John

Preparing for the End:  Religious Affections, Part 1
Friday, August 22, 2008, posted by Steve McCranie (021)

  Do you remember Jonathan Edwards?
Yeah, the guy who sang, "Sunshine."
Uh, no.  Same name, wrong guy.
What Jonathan Edwards are you talking about?
I'm talking about Jonathan Edwards of the Great Awakening fame.  The Jonathan Edwards who, on July 8th, 1741, preached "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God."  You know, the Jonathan Edwards who wrote Religious Affections back in 1746. Do you remember that Jonathan Edwards?
If you don't, you should.

Note:  This is a study of 1 John

Another one bites the dust!
Wednesday, August 13, 2008, posted by Steve McCranie (020)

The signs of a true apostle were performed among you with all perseverance,
by signs and wonders and miracles.
2 Corinthians 12:12

Uh, let me see... and this is one of the signs of a true apostle, right?  Yawn.

The following is from the Ministry Report* (from August 12th):

Evangelist Todd Bentley, who last week unofficially left the Lakeland Outpouring to continue similar meetings around the world, announced to his staff yesterday that he and his wife, Shonnah, are separating.

According to the Lakeland Ledger, Bentley filed for separation despite the couple having been in marriage counseling for several months. Bentley and his wife, who have three children, are Canadian citizens and under Canadian law are required to go through a nine-month separation period prior to divorce.

On Bentley’s ministry’s Web site, a letter written by the Fresh Fire Ministries board of directors stated that...

“there has been no sexual immorality on the part of either Todd or Shonnah, nor has there ever been. Undoubtedly the pressures and the burden of the Outpouring, which approaches 144 days on August 23rd, have helped to create an atmosphere of fatigue and stress that has exacerbated existing issues in their relationship. We wish to stress however, that the Outpouring is not ‘to blame’ for the current chain of events and that in effect we have no interest in blaming anyone, but rather we deeply covet your prayers for Todd and Shonnah and for Fresh Fire Ministries during this time.”

Going, going... gone!

No Todd.  The Scriptures say the "signs of a true apostle" were performed among the believers in Corinth.   That's true apostle.  True, as in genuine.

Ever wonder how all this is going to end up?  What the final outcome will be?
Thursday, August 7, 2008, posted by Steve McCranie (019)

Israel.  Iran.  The sub-prime mortgage collapse.  World-wide inflation.  Energy rationing.  Unemployment.  The devaluation of the dollar.  The election.  And geez... we could go on and on and on.

Have you ever wondered how all this is going to end?  You know, how it's all going to play out as we passively watch things go from bad to worse to "oh my God, I don't wanna get outta bed!"  When the dust settles, who will have the winning hand - the ace in the hole?

The following article (August 7th) is from the ICEJ (International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem).*  It reports that the rhetoric between two nations and ideologies, between Iran, Israel and the West, is being ratcheted up to another level still.  Higher and higher.  Close to where the original Star Trek intro said, "To go where no man had gone before."

One country shouts while the other carefully plans.  Pretty scary... especially when you consider we're talking about WMDs.

As they continue to rattle their sabers I am reminded of the fact that saber rattling always leads to someone getting flayed, spiced and diced and put in the freezer.  And then nations go to war and people die.

We are truly living in troubling times.  Read and begin to diligently prepare for the end.

Rice Denies US Veto over Israeli strike on Iran
Barak: IDF preparing for all options, "uncompromising" victory

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice gave the strongest indication yet, Thursday, that the Bush administration will not stand in the way of an Israeli preemptive strike against Iran's renegade nuclear program.

"We don't say yes or no to Israeli military operations. Israel is a sovereign country," Rice said in an interview with Yahoo! News. The secretary of state emphasized the importance of using diplomacy to defuse the dispute over Iran's nuclear program, even as the latest deadline for Iran to accept an EU-brokered incentives package passed without a response from Tehran. "We are in very close contact with the Israelis and we talk about the diplomatic track that we're on," Rice continued.

Earlier in the day, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said that the IDF is preparing for an "uncompromising" victory should Iran try to attack Israel. Speaking in an interview published Thursday in the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, Barak insisted that Israel needs to consider all scenarios in confronting the Iranian threat.

"We need to keep every option open," Barak told the paper. "If they provoke us, or they attack us, our army is prepared to attack and to succeed uncompromisingly."

"It's up to us to find the best way to get the best result with minimum damage," he added.

Meanwhile, the Israel Air Force's anti-aircraft division on Tuesday carried out one of the largest exercises to date testing its response to simultaneous missile strikes by Syria, Hizballah and Iran. The exercise began with a single Syrian missile strike on Israel and was swiftly followed by salvos of simulated missiles launched by Hizballah and Iran.

The Revelation:  Second Verse, Same as the First
Wednesday, August 6, 2008, posted by Steve McCranie (018)

They seemed to come from nowhere, proclaiming the dire warnings of God.  And then, overnight, they were everywhere!
Who are these guys?

"And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy (lit: to speak forth, to proclaim, to preach) for (how long) twelve hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth."

Let's learn about these two guys.

The Great Paradigm Shift, Parts 1 and 2
Tuesday, August 5, 2008, posted by Steve McCranie (017)

The following are two shows from Steel on Steel with John Loeffler.*  Steel on Steel is a weekly news radio forum, an early warning intelligence service spanning interactions between politics, religion and economics.  I strongly urge you to subscribe to John's weekly podcast (after all, it's only $6.00 a month).  He provides commentary and insights that are vital for us in the coming dark times we face as a nation, a people and a church.

The first is called The Great Paradigm Shift, Part 1, and was broadcast on July 19th.  The summary is listed below:

The great energy and economic paradigm shift approaches with greater velocity than we originally thought, still targeting a crisis window from 2009-2012. America and the West will look markedly different when they emerge from the other side of the change.

This week and next we'll examine in detail what this means for us individually. Futurist James Kunstler (www.kunstler.com) is the sole guest on this week's program.

With IndyMac Bank failing last week and more waiting to fall, John's extended boralogue chronicles the ongoing subprime mortgage crisis, just the first of a series of crises pushing us into the perfect financial storm.

The second, The Great Paradigm Shift, Part 2, was broadcast a week later on July 26th.  Once again, the summary:

As promised, today's program is Part 2 of the Great Paradigm Shift, featuring Warren Brussee, author of "The Second Great Depression."  Hopefully we're painting a picture the next 48-60 months to help you navigate through the oncoming financial storms.

Ever wonder why so many pastors seem to be so "wussie?" For the answer we'll dip into the SOS archive grab bag for an interview from 1999 featuring Dr. Leon Podles, author of "The Church Impotent: The Feminization of Christianity."

A lot of people email us to say that capitalism is broken or the cause of the widening gap between rich and poor. John's boralogue shows we no longer have capitalism but rather that we're functioning in a virtual socialist environment, the source of the lion's share of disparities.

The Revelation:  It's Time to Kick Some Honey Bun!
Monday, August 4, 2008, posted by Steve McCranie (016)

You could hear their voices, those who cried out from under the altar, those who have been slain because of the word of God and for the testimony of the Lord they had maintained.  Their cry and their question was simple.

"How long, O Lord? How long will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?"

The answer?  Sobering.  Frightening.

As Lucy said to Charlie Brown, "You couldn't lead a dog on a leash."
Sunday, August 3, 2008, posted by Steve McCranie (015)

I'm not sure there is much more that I can say to top this.  Listen closely.  "We re the ones we have been waiting for."  Amazing.

"He may be the one.  But is he ready to lead?"
Uh, Charlie.  Remember Lucy's comments about the dog and the leash.

A Law Professor and a Policeman Tell You Why You Should Never Speak to a Policeman Without Your Lawyer Present
Saturday, August 2, 2008, posted by Steve McCranie (014)

Maybe my problem is that I've watched way too much Law and Order on late night TV.  Or maybe my untrusting, cynical past is raising its ugly head to shout, "See, told you!  Nanny, nanny, boo, boo."  Or maybe I simply don't trust the legal system, the law enforcement system, our government, the press or the church.
     And maybe it shows.
     And maybe I'm not alone.
Any maybe that's not such a bad thing.

The following post is from Gary North*  (remember him, of Y2K fame).  I agree with Gary that this is a must see video.  Is it long?  Heck yeah.  But, as Confucius say, "anything of value is worth the time."  Actually, he didn't say that, I made it up.  But regardless of the source, it is true, nonetheless.
Watch and realize that we are living in troubling times.
     Again, pretty sobering stuff.

I'll let Gary take it from here.

These presentations took place at Regent University's Law School. They are like nothing I have ever seen. If you do not watch both of these videos, you risk walking into a trap that could ruin your life.

I did not know any of this until I saw them. Someone should have told me. Someone should have told you.

Anything you say can be held against you in a court of law. Nothing you say will exonerate you in a court of law: "I object your honor. This is hearsay." "Objection sustained."

Don't tell your story. Get your lawyer.

When the policeman reads you the Miranda warning, honor it. Do not give a waiver. No matter what the police officer tells you, do not surrender your rights. "Do you want to talk to give me your side of the story?" You do not.

     First, the lawyer:

     Second, the policeman:

As they say, "read 'em and weep."

Hypocrites at Panera: An Illustration of Fallen Human Nature
Wednesday, July 30, 2008, posted by Steve McCranie (013)

The following is a from the blog, Between Two Worlds.*  Pretty sobering stuff...

Last week while my family was on vacation in a state in the "Bible Belt," my wife overheard a conversation that illustrates fallen human nature. (As a fallen sinner myself, my conversations often illustrate that as well! I'm highlighting this conversation because it is particularly striking.)

My wife had just sat down at Panera with her family to enjoy their lunch when two men came over to a table immediately next to them. They conversed rather loudly, and although my wife tried not to listen, she ended up overhearing some of what they said. They were discussing one of the men’s dating relationship (we’ll call him Man A) with a certain woman, and the other man (Man B) was offering sympathy with his friend’s frustration over the relationship’s direction. Here’s a paraphrase of the conversation:

Man A:  She says she’s just not ready to sleep with someone unless they’re committed to a long-term relationship.
Man B:  Oh, my. She’s really being too analytical. You know, you’re a good guy. She’s going to lose you if she’s not careful
Man A:  She keeps wanting to talk about the “direction” we’re going. I’m just not ready for conversations like that. I think she’s being too introspective. She’s just over-analyzing this. I really don’t see us being in a long-term relationship.
Man B:  Yeah, that’s why I never dated her. I mean, she’s really beautiful and everything, but she does seem to analyze everything too much. If someone’s been single for eight years, there must be a reason.

The two continued discussing their frustration with this “over-analytical” woman. Then my wife was startled to hear Man B ask his friend,

Man B:  So, have you been to church lately?
Man A:  No, I’ve just gotten fed up with church—all those hypocritical people all dressed up and talking about doing good! They’re not any better the rest of the week for having gone to church.
Man B:  You know, you might like my church. It’s different. They’re not pushy about how you should live or anything. They’re just really big on helping other people—like feeding the homeless and stuff. over-analyzing this. I really don’t see us being in a long-term relationship.
Man A:  Oh, I’d like that! I’m the kind of person who really likes to help other people. I think that’s really important!

Wow.  Love Jesus, Hate Church in living color... at Panera.

Preparing for the End:  Satanic Attacks on the Early Church
Tuesday, July 22, 2008, posted by Steve McCranie (012)

As the church strove for unity, the enemy tried to bury her in the ground.  Just like he continues to do today.
That ugly, ignorant jerk!
But the church has a secret weapon... and, unlike us today, they weren't afraid to use it.  They weren't afraid to go nuclear, as we say.

Ever wonder what that secret weapon was?  Ever wonder how we can recapture some of the power and awe of the early church?  Ever wonder "what the heck is going on" on Sunday?
Stay tuned and listen...

The Revelation:  The End of Pride
Monday, June 30, 2008, posted by Steve McCranie (011)

Some of the most chilling words in all of the Revelation... at least up to this point.

"And the rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so as not to worship demons, and the idols of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which can neither see or hear nor walk; and they did not repent of their murders nor of their sorceries nor of their immorality nor of their thefts."

Pretty dang stupid, if you ask me.

The Rise of the New Energy World Order
Wednesday, June 11, 2008, posted by Steve McCranie (010)

Oil at $110 a barrel. Gasoline at $3.35 (or more) per gallon. Diesel fuel at $4 per gallon. Independent truckers forced off the road. Home heating oil rising to unconscionable price levels. Jet fuel so expensive that three low-cost airlines stopped flying in the past few weeks. This is just a taste of the latest energy news, signaling a profound change in how all of us, in this country and around the world, are going to live - trends that, so far as anyone can predict, will only become more pronounced as energy supplies dwindle and the global struggle over their allocation intensifies.

Here, according to Michael T. Klare,*  are five key forces in this new world order which will change our planet:

1. Intense competition between older and newer economic powers for available supplies of energy.
2. The insufficiency of primary energy supplies.
3. The painfully slow development of energy alternatives.
4. A steady migration of power and wealth from energy-deficit to energy-surplus nations.
5. A growing risk of conflict.

This article is a good read.  To view the entire article, click - HERE

of Resource Wars and Blood and Oil.

Love Grown Cold... Like Big Time!
Friday, June 6, 2008, posted by Steve McCranie (009)

You know, Jesus said one of the signs of the times of His coming would be the simple fact that the love of people, of you and I, will grow cold.
     Really cold. Fridged.
This video is just one example.
A traffic camera in Hartford, Connecticut, caught on tape a man, Angel Arce Torres, age 78, being struck by two cars, thrown into the air, and paralyzed below the neck... and literally ignored by dozens of bystanders as he lay critically injured in the street.
Take a look at it and cringe.

     Now, look again.
Notice the car that pulls to the right, backs up, and then goes on its merry way.
Notice the man in the foreground that gets something from a car and casually walks by the fallen man without even looking down.
Finally, notice the man on the motorcycle that passes the injured grandfather, circles to get a closer look, and hurries on his way.

"Because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold."

Matthew 24:12

Watch and weep for what we have become as a people... and as a church.
